Haiku Letterpress Workshop at Athenaeum Art Center

  • 1955 Julian Avenue San Diego, CA, 92113 United States (map)

Join Here & There to learn the art of letterpress in a 3-hour workshop on Saturday, April 5th, 4-7pm. Led by Athenaeum Art Center's director Chris Padilla, the workshop is an opportunity to dive into Athenaeum's print studio at Bread & Salt in Barrio Logan, which houses an incredible array of vintage and antique presses and type.

Our small group of 8 students including Here & There's spring 2025 resident, Tijuana based artist Annie Alarcón, will master the basics of letterpress, including the intricate skill of type setting.

Using a curated selection of metal type, workshop participants will craft and set their own haikus or short poems or writings, transforming them into works of art on the Asbern Automatic Proof Press.

Beginning level - no experience needed. Open to participants 18+ years of age.
English/Spanish instruction available.

Fee includes instruction and materials for art pieces for each participant to take home.
Free street parking available.
Tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferred to another guest.

We hope to see you there!
