Black Xpression is an open mic experience centered around community blending Afro-centric conciseness with Friday night turn up vibez and a dash of Family cook out.

Maybe in third grade your teacher said: “Tomorrow, children, we are going to write poems. Because everyone can be a poet.” Never does the teacher say, “Tomorrow, children we are going to write a novel.” (or a piece of creative non-fiction) So how do you become a poet? This workshop is designed to introduce you to the history of poetry today and provide a toolbox of techniques. The ultimate goal of the entire Certification process is to enable the writer to produce a publishable manuscript. In each workshop session, writing assignments or prompts will be provided as well as precise and qualitative feedback on the poems produced. Although not necessary, this workshop is designed to strongly encourage the generation of new work and the fine-tuning of previously written poems.

The group meets the third Thursday of every month at the La Jolla Library from 2pm to 3pm. This is an opportunity to read and share poems you have written. It is a place for budding and experienced poets to come and share their writings with others. 

Writers: 18+, novice and experienced, join us for Pen to Paper Writing Class

Whether you’re new to creative writing or have been at it for years, come join this fun, weekly drop-in class. You’ll learn techniques to polish your writing craft in a welcoming and supportive environment. We’ll provide the writing exercises, time the sessions, then we’ll all share our stories. There’s no pressure to read and no critique.

Bring your creativity, sense of adventure, and pen & paper, (no laptops please). Free.  Presented by San Diego Writers, Inc.
